Red River RSES Chapter Meeting Minutes


December 8, 2003

Meeting was called to order, and roll call of officers was taken.

Correspondence:
Letter of appreciation from D. Brian Baker, CM, Region 16 Director addressed to Irv Moeller, CMS, Past International President was read by Chapter President Chuck Lyche, CM to the chapter. Director Baker expressed his thanks and appreciation for setting up a display of the RSES educational materials available, and commended the Red River Chapter on a highly successful seminar. A copy of the letter is available through this link. President Lyche expressed his thanks to Chris Daly, CM, Bill Swanson, CMS, Mike Kempel, CMS, Ivan Maas, CMS, David Olson, CMS, Mike Blotske, CM, and to RHI Supply for their extra work in putting on the seminar.
Old Business:

New Business:
Update on NATE recertification for those RSES members who were "grandfathered" in as a CM or CMS.
Announced that 20 new members joined the Red River Chapter during the R.W. Kellow Seminar.
Reminder of the upcoming UMRA Conference in April, hosted by the Red River Chapter.
Announced that the March 2004 educational session will be presented by the Minnesota Electrical Board, and they will talk on electrical code issues. This session will satisfy the two hour requirement of continuing education on the electrical code as required by Minnesota state law.
Announced that the January meeting will be held at the Red Cross training center in Fargo, ND, and it will be CPR training. The chapter will pay the fees for both members and their spouse.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned for the Chapter Christmas Party.

Presentation of Commercial Refrigeration Specialist plaque to Joel Krause, CMS by Irv Moeller, CMS, Past International President.
Discussion of a first aid and/or CPR class for the January meeting.

Announcement that Joel Krause, CMS, had successfully passed the Commercial Refrigeration Specialist exam given at the RSES International Conference recently held in Nashville, TN
Old Business:
Membership status of Bob Reimer, CM was brought to the full chapter after discussion among the officers. Motion was made from the floor and seconded for the Red River Chapter to pay Bob Reimer's dues for 2003-2004. Motion passed.
New Business:
Request was made to include in the November meeting notice for those spouses interested in assisting with the Ladies Auxiliary functions at the upcoming UMRA conference in Fargo to attend the next scheduled meeting.
Guests were introduced.

Old Business:
Judy Nysveen and Mary Daly volunteered in absentia, to work on the UMRA Convention Ladies Auxiliary with the guidance of Dee Moeller. Dee will be the advisor. A special thank you to these wonderful volunteers!
Our educational meeting, set for December 6th, will feature reading and understanding electrical schematics. This course has been approved for NATE and will be worth 8 CEU's. We are presently seeking if this will qualify for the MN portion of continuing education, for our limited power license requirements.
New Business:
The Red River Chapter of RSES is proud to announce that 3 of its members attained very prestigious awards.
All three will attend the RSES International convention in October.
The motion was made and passed that all three shall receive monetary assistance from the chapter, to defray expenses related to travel.
Motion was made and passed to have a new applicant's yearly membership for 2003 paid for by the chapter, for his help with the MN Limited Power license seminar.
Ivan ordered RAC 1 books and the instructors manual, and will teach the class to anyone interested. The cost per member will be $30 each, with the chapter picking up the balance. Contact Ivan for further details.
Ivan has a stack of "Ask the Experts" cards to be filled out and submitted to the the RSES editors.
It was noted that an invitation should be extended to the future 2004 RSES International President.

The guest speaker from the FM Convention and Visitor Bureau talked to the chapter about promoting and hosting the upcoming 2004 UMRA Conference.

The educational session was held at the Fargo Water Treatment Plant where an explanation of the water treatment process, and tour of the facility was given by Ron Hendricksen, Water Treatment Plant Superintendent.
