Red River RSES Chapter Meeting Minutes


December 13, 2005

The meeting was called to order at Refrigeration Heating Supply in Fargo, ND.
19 members were present. Roll call of officers was taken

Old Business:
Chris Daly, CM, gave a report on our 4th annual Kellow seminar that was held on 12/3/05 there were 119 registered members attending. The seminar was on Refrigerant Piping by Garth Denison, CMS and was another success.
New Business:
There was some discussion on which training course the Chapter would like to hold this spring. The subject was tabled till the next meeting.
Chuck Lyche, CM won the door prize.
Our February meeting has been moved from February 14th to February 21st due to Valentine’s Day on February 14th.
A motion was made and approved to accept all new applicants that have applied to the Fargo Chapter.

The 4th Annual Kellow Seminar will be held the 3rd of December 2005. Garth Denison, CMS will talk about Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Piping Practices.
Andrew Curtis won the door prize.
Our December meeting will be a Christmas party meeting at RHI Supply.
Our February meeting will be moved from February 14th to either the week before or after February 14th. The board will decide on the date for the February meeting.
A CMS award was handed out to Mr. Joel Krouse, CMS for passing the specialist test in Domestic Service.
A motion was passed to donate $200.00 to the Builders Exchange Christmas Fund.

Chris Daly, CM showed a film on Modine Furnaces and Make-Up Air Units. Don Anderson, CM talked to us about Sanyo’s plans for 13 Seer Units.

New Business:
Erv Moeller, CMS gave a report from The International Meeting in Atlanta. Members can now take CMS tests at the chapter level, if approved, without a seminar or district meeting. The chapter will see if there is enough interest to hold some test in Fargo.

Erv Moeller, CMS swore in new officers.
Dave Olson, CMS gave a report on International Conference bylaw changes.
A motion was made to give David Olson, CMS $500.00 to act as delegate for our chapter at The International Conference and to help with the expenses.
Bruce Kamperschroer, CM was elected Sergeant At Arms on the International Level.
Urcle Campbell of NDSCS won the door prize.

Old Business:
Mr.Ivan Maas CMS and Mr. David Olson CMS have will be attending the International Conference in Atlanta GA the first week in October and have agreed to represent our chapter as chapter delegates.
New Business:
Les Tweeton and Bill Hanson CM, both outstanding members of our chapter have passed away this past summer. They will be greatly missed.
The chapter received a thank you letter from John Patterson who took first place in the National Skills Competition in Kansas City this spring. Congratulations John. Clayton Brost also placed third in the National competition.
Our next meeting in October will be held in the Refrigeration Department at The North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton ND. The chapter would like to bring RSES to the attention of the refrigeration students. The chapter is checking into getting a bus to transport the members from Fargo to Wahpeton for the meeting at the chapters expense. The chapter will schedule a similar meeting date in the spring with the Minnesota State Technical College Moorhead MN.
A motion was made and passed that reads. If a first year Student joins RSES as a student member and attends a minimum of five meetings the first year and attends a minimum of five the second year as a second year student member. the chapter will pay their first years dues as a full member. If a second year student joins RSES as a student member and attends a minimum of five meetings in that year the chapter will pay fifty percent of their next years dues as a full member.
Five hundred dollar checks were written as donations from last springs meetings to the refrigeration departments of North Dakota State College of Science Wahpeton, and Minnesota State Technical College Moorhead. These dollars are to be used at the discretion of the refrigeration advisory boards. For tools and equipment for the departments.
A motion passed that reads the Fargo RSES chapter will contact both North Dakota State Collage of Science Wahpeton HVACR department and Minnesota State Technical College Moorhead HVACR departments every February to see if there is a need for another donation for tools and equipment to be purchased over the summer. money permitting.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
A very nice supper and educational meeting was presented by Yes Distributing. The subject was Scotsman Ice Machines and the speakers were Mr.Greg Stigen and Mr. Jim Thompson.

A motion was made and approved to award John Paterson 200.00 to assist in travel expenses to compete in the national skills contest in Kansas City.
Three new memberships were accepted and they are Chad McFarland, Jade Hilscher, and Jeffrey Puckett.
The Nominating committee made a motion and was approved for a new slate of officers for the 2005-2006 year and they are.

Letters have been sent out for our spring party on May 6th at Seasons Rose Creek 6:30 PM
12 members were reimbursed their registration for attending UMRA in Minot ND.
A nominating committee is in search of candidates for Sergeant of Arms Position.
New Business
Chris Daily CM is looking into a Kellow seminar again this December. He will check on topics available.
An eight hour electrical coarse is gong to be held by NDSCS at the Fargo skills center on May 21. This will be an opportunity to get credits for your Mn. PLT.
The chapter fully supports Bruce Kamperschroer CM for his nomination for Regional Director of Region 11 and also fully supports him in his bid for International Sergeant of Arms.
Door prize was won by Wayne Rathke CM

Steve Bulat CM will check into a need for a donation to the Fargo High Schools vocational department on behalf of the Red River RSES chapter. Steve will report back to us next month.
Minot RSES will hold UMRA in Minot ND on April 8th and 9th 2005 . The UMRA Convention will be held at the International Inn. They have set aside a block of rooms for the convention.
A motion was passed to pay back any member of the Red River RSES chapter 175.00 with their proof of full registration and attendance to the UMRA conference in Minot ND April 8th and 9th.
Next months meeting will be on the electrical code to assist any member in getting their required 8 hours necessary to renew their electrical license. This meeting will be good for 2 hours credit.
Mr. Andrew Curtis was presented his certificate of active membership
Tenitive dates for an 8-hour electrical study coarse were set for April 4th or 11th. Notices will be sent out.
Tenitive dates for an annual RSES party were set for a Saturday in May. The party committee will set a date as it gets closer. The members that volunteered to be on the committee are Bill Swanson CM, Chuck Lyche CM, and Chuck Steckler CM.
Door prize was won by Gary Nysveen CM

Old business
We received a bill for three copies of the EPA testing and nobody knows who ordered them. Todd is looking into it.
New business
Minot RSES will hold UMRA in Minot ND on April 8th and 9th 2005. The UNRA registration is in the mail and we should receive it in the next few days. The UMRA Convention will be held at the International Inn. They have set aside a block of rooms for the convention.
Kellow seminar. A motion was made and approved to send 500.00 to the refrigeration departments of all three local refrigeration schools to be used at the desecration of the department advisory board. The schools are NDSCS Wahpeton ND, Northwest technical college East Grand Forks MN, and Northwest technical college Moorhead MN. The remainder of the profits are to be returned to RSES International.

Members are checking with department heads of three local HVACR classes for scholarships that RSES may contribute to. A suggestion was made to contribute 400. dollars to each school. The money would come out of the chapters half of the profits made on the last Kellow seminar. A report will be given at the next meeting.
The door prize was won by Daryl Johnson, CMS.

The educational meeting was presented by Joel Liebl with the North Dakota State Highway Patrol. He spoke on winter driving.
